Bella Venezia

Venice has been my favorite city so far in Europe. It truly is a slice of an “old world”, and walking the streets of such a rich artistic nucleus leave me mesmerized.

Then of course there’s the food. I wish gelato became an international standard - 1 Euro a scoop (less at some places) is wonderful. Then there’s the Italian cuisine, the fine wines, and variety of paninis… ah, Italy.

Venice at night

Let’s not forget the small rural towns, either.

Right now it’s 12:40 am and I’m in Vicenza, about 40 minutes west of Venice. I’ve spent a couple of days here at my friend’s place (Jim and Amanda) and loved the chance to be in a real home for a little bit. (Hostels can be fun, but after a while I find I do like my own space…)

Tonight it’s been raining. Occasionally lighting chases itself across the sky and a thunder peal makes itself known. I sit with about a kilometer of farmland all around me, and the knowledge that in about 72 hours I’ll be back in America and all the pressures of real life.

I think those pressures ever truly left me, though. Yes, this is a vacation… but it’s also been a time for me to be step back so that I can gain a better perspective on all the things that were swamping me back at home.

So, as time has permitted, I’ve spent some thought and energy thinking, meditating, and internally debating about what’s next in life.

One step at a time… that’s how I like to travel. One step at a time, and the next step in response to the music… that’s how I like to dance.
